Drink Oolong Cold

I realize it is only February as I am writing this, but being in the south, I still enjoy ice tea with a meal. In the south, we are known for our sweet tea, which is just a few bags of Lipton tea with a bunch of sugar. However, everyone who uses Oolong Tea Bags always talks about making a cup of hot tea in a ceremonial tea pot and cup. That’s fine, and I’m all about doing things proper and enjoying the whole experience, but here is another thing you might want to consider, especially if you want a healthier option for a beverage with your meal or on a hot day.

First, get a couple of tea bags from your box of Oolong tea and steep it with boiling/hot water like you would any other tea. I like to make about 2 quarts.

Next, add your cold water and ice to the pitcher to make a the 2 quarts. I suggest using a glass pitcher and not a Tupperware or plastic pitcher. I just think glass makes it taste better and preserves the flavor of the tea better.

Finally, let it chill and prepare to server. You can add sweetner or sugar if you want, but I have acquaired a taste for unsweetened Oolong tea.

Another thing I like to do is fill up small bottles with cold tea to take in a cooler with me. This is great when I’m traveling or want to have a bottle at my desk. It’s also a nice alternative to pack in a lunch.

So, the next time you’re thinking ice tea, try it with some Oolong instead.
